In short
Family Tree Guide ("we", "us") runs this website as a free family history blog. We collect as little personal information as we can. This page explains what we do collect and why.
When you contact us
If you email us, chat with us or use our contact form, we receive your message along with any name, email address or phone number you choose to give. Contact form messages are stored in a lead management service that we use to organise and answer enquiries. We use this information only to reply and to improve the blog. We do not sell it or pass it to anyone for marketing.
Live chat
Our pages include a chat widget provided by Zoho SalesIQ. When it loads, Zoho may collect technical details such as your IP address, browser, device, the pages you view here and how long you stay. Chat messages, and any contact details you share in them, are stored by Zoho on our behalf so we can respond. Please do not share passwords, payment details or other sensitive information in the chat. Zoho's own privacy policy describes how it handles this data.
Technical information
Like most websites, our hosting provider may keep basic logs, such as IP addresses, browser types and pages requested, to keep the site secure and running. Our pages also load fonts from Google Fonts, which may receive your IP address when delivering them.
Cookies
We do not use advertising cookies. The Zoho SalesIQ chat widget sets its own cookies to recognise returning visitors and keep chat conversations connected. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings; the blog will still work, though the chat may not.
Children
The blog is suitable for a general audience. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Changes
We may update this policy from time to time. The date at the top shows when it last changed.
